After much anticipation, the latest version of WordPress (v3.6 “Oscar”) is finally released and available to the public. Some notable user features include: Revamped Revisions, Post Locking and Augmented Autosave, Built-in HTML5 Media Player and an Updated Menu Editor. You can read the full details over at the WordPress news blog.
As a reminder, before making any updates always create a backup of your existing website. Of course, clients that are using or Managed WordPress Hosting service does not have to worry because all of this will be done for you. During a major release such as this one, we usually wait around 2 – 3 weeks before performing any upgrades. This will give us time to backup and test the new version to make sure nothing breaks on your website. Also, during the first few weeks a lot more users will try out the software and report any remaining issues that were not caught by the programming team. When there is a minor update, we will typically upgrade WordPress in about 3 – 5 days.
Here is a neat little video that shows off some of the new features… check it out!
